September 2017

Following our summer break, we started back up with a panel at the Decatur Book Festival called Creating Jane’s Creations:  Jane Austen’s novels have been rediscovered and reinterpreted by every generation of readers in the two hundred years since the her death in 1817. In “The Making of Jane Austen,” Devoney Looser features some of the earliest artists, actors, and activists who fostered Austen’s fame. Dr. Looser and her fellow panelists will explore why Austen and her works continue to engage contemporary readers and inspire today’s artists. Moderated by Kristen Miller Zohn, Coordinator ofJane Austen Society of America’s Georgia Region, the panel will also include playwright Tara Raczenski, who recently adapted “Persuasion “for the stage, and Soniah Kamal, author of the forthcoming “Marriage Material: Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in Pakistan.”

We held our annual Box Hill Picnic at Callaway Gardens in the Butterfly Pavilion.  The real Box Hill, in England, is renown for its diversity of butterfly species.
